A.C.E., the only privatized suspension program for elementary, junior and senior high school students in Wyoming, was developed in response a request made by School District 2. Volunteers of America proposed the formation of privatizing a schools suspension program that entailed community-based monitoring and reentry. The innovative and unique program implements a structured and intensive learning experience in an off-campus environment, with individualized attention through low student-to-monitor ratios.
Students take an active role in their daily goal setting and behavior management. Additionally, students have the ability to earn less time in suspension with exceptional behavior and attitude. Program staff assists youth in establishing and maintaining clear expectations of behavior with immediate and relevant consequences. Students participate in programming that allows for academic development, reflection on behavior management and community service. Students participate with staff in evaluating their progress at the end of each day. Each student returns to school with an identified mentor and reentry plan.
