Volunteers of America Breaks Ground on its New Milestones Children's Home

May 11, 2010 (Sheridan, WY)

Volunteers of America Wyoming & Montana (VOA) had a groundbreaking ceremony with local donors, county & state representatives, and the VOA Board of Directors. Also in attendance were the children from the current Milestones Children’s Home (MCH) and several VOA staff members.

The MCH is a residential facility for children ages 10-17.  The Children’s Home provides services to youth in crisis as well as court-ordered youth. The home provides a nurturing environment that includes education, preparation and advancement.  A behavior management system is in place whereby children earn points, privileges and independence in an effort to empower children to learn self-reliance for future success.

Speaking at the event was President & CEO of Volunteers of America Wyoming & Montana, Jeff Holsinger; Board Chairman, Charley Whiton; State of Wyoming Construction Official, Dennis Egge; and County Commissioner, Bob Rolston.

Holsinger thanked the state and city representatives and board members in attendance, and also spoke of the significant growth the new home will provide for the Milestones’s youth. Holsinger also mentioned that the home will have two fully furnished transitional living homes where up to two tenants per house have the opportunity to gain self-sufficiency and independence.

Whiton talked about what Volunteers of America has done for the Sheridan community for the last 25 years and how the MCH’s new growth is the next resource being built at the campus.

Egge spoke on behalf of the American Reinvestment & Recovery Act and its role in putting people to work in these economically challenging times.

Rolston talked about the county involvement with the Milestones Children’s Home and declared his excitement in the continuing growth of VOA and its programs.
